+ Tech Requirements to take this course

You do not have to be techy savvy to take this course. Our online classroom is simple to use.

However you do have to have something to watch the videos (computer, tablet, or smartphone), access to the internet, and a way to listen to the lectures, in order to take this course.

+ Requirements for Certification for Birth Doulas

  • Send in a valid BLS for Healthcare Providers card
  • Pass the timed texam administered at the end of the training with a score of 80% or above
  • Attend 3 births and submit our Labor Attendance Confirmation Form, which can be signed by the client, lead doula, or healthcare provider in attendance.
  • Maintain good standing and current membership with the Parenting Resources Professional Network
  • Complete 30 Continuing Education Hours every 3 years. (We have many available for you in person and online, but we will also accept IBLCE approved classes)

The Certificatied Birth Doula process, explained:

After completeing the course, passing the exam, and providing us with proof of CRP or BLS for Healthcare Providers, we will provide you with a Student Birth Doula Certificate.

You must then attend or observe 3 births and send in Labor Verification Forms for each one. This can be as a solo doula, as a shadowing doula, or just as an observer. A client, midwife, OB, or another doula can sign off that you were in attendance.

You will then recieve your Certified Birth Doula Certificate!

Every 3 years you must send in proof of 30 CEUs, which can be anything related to pregnancy, birth, family, or postpartum related subjects. You must also pay the annumal membership fee to Parenting Resources Professional Network. Your first year's dues are included in your class fee.

+ Requirements for Certification for Postpartum Doulas?

We are the only program in the United States that Certifies their Postpartum Doulas upon successful completion of the course!

You must complete 100% of the online course content and pass the timed exam at the end of the course. You'll also have a skills assessment via Skype, which is a pass/fail on 10 skills that you will have learned throughout the course.

We must also receive proof of CPR or BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

After completion of all of these items, you will receive your Certified Postpartum Doula certification!

Every 3 years you must send in proof of 30 CEUs, which can be anything related to pregnancy, birth, family, motherhood, family or postpartum related subjects. Meet Your Renowned Instructors

Kathy Loughren, MSN, ARNP, IBCLC 

Kathy has been a neonatal expert for well over 30 years, serving as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She is also a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula. She has worked around the country in NICUs, as well as serving as an expert legal witness on neonatal cases, and sees clients throughout St. Louis as a Lactation Consultant. She has attended well over 10,000 births and continues to work clinically in the St. Louis area. She is the co-founder of Parenting Resources, the Premier Education and Support Center for New and Expectant Parents and the Professionals who serve them. She is known as a gifted speaker, teacher, and excellent bedside clinician, along with being seen as a professional who cares for and includes families in their baby's care. While she impacts the lives of babies and caregivers in her practice and teaching, she also brings her vast knowledge and passion to students as a lead instructor in the Parenting Resources Professional Network certification programs including Postpartum Doulas, Birth Doulas, Newborn Care Specialists, Perinatal Health Educators, and Babywearing Specialists throughout the country and online.

Kate Schnetzer, MHA, CBS, CLC, CPST

Kate holds as Masters in Health Administration and is a Certified Babywearing Educator, Lactation Counselor, Postpartum Doula, Child Passenger Safety Technician, and holds Certifications in Child Welfare and has been trained by Postpartum Support International. She has been serving families for over 10 years and is the co-founder of Parenting Resources, the Premier Education and Support Center for New and Expectant Parents and the Professionals who serve them. She is a business and marketing guru while also sees dozens of private babywearing consulting clients each week. She also brings her babywearing, safety, and business expertise to students as a lead instructor for the Parenting Resources Professional Network certification programs including Postpartum Doulas, Birth Doulas, Perinatal Health Educators, and Babywearing Specialists throughout the country and online.
